Ok, let me start by apologizing to my wife 'cause this post is 3 days overdue :(
why? 'cause i got a 17" powerbook on 28 october, w00t :)
i was saving up for one but my wife and one of my best friends totally surprised me and got me one.
it is the enhanced 17" pb of which the following features have been improved compared to the previous model:
it has a better screen capable of a 1680x1050 resolution and it is fitted with 2 gigabytes of pc4200 ddr2 memory.
it is equipped with a double-layer 8x superdrive capable of burning all dvd and cd formats.
it's supposed to have a improved battery as well capable of lasting about 5.5 hours under the most power saving situation.
also the new 17" comes standard with a 120Gb 5400 rpm HD so that's a 20Gb gain over the previous model.
i am totally lovin' this baby and posted some screenshots of it on my flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/razrx
i find mac OS X (Tiger) to be one sweet ride. it's mature and built on the rock-solid BSD codebase (FreeBSD based).
everything just simply works and the software engineers at Apple are great at designing UI's.
i'm totally blown away by this piece of sweetness, never worked with such a great unix based desktop before.

w00t! Apple has made a deal with the media-markt chain of shops and is selling their product line via them.
i visited the amsterdam branch 2 days ago and there they were.
the 3 cinema displays were on display, the 12 and 17" powerbooks were there, although i couldn't confirm whether they were the enhanced ones 'cause the screens were locked.
iPods (only 4th gen) and the iPod Nano (2 and 4 gig versions) and lots of iPod accessoiries.
it made me all warm inside :P
i haven't checked out the prices but i imagine that media-markt will sell Apple hardware for the same price as found in the official Apple stores and the online store.
it just helps bring the Apple products to the average joe on the corner a little easier.
i'm saving up for a 17" powerbook myself but don't think i'll buy my Mac from media-markt but will go to a Apple store, unless there will be a big price difference.

Just a little test.

w00t! yesterday i went to a DNS/DHCP seminar organized by a company with which my employer prolly wants to do business.
the key speaker was none other than Mr. Cricket Liu.
for the people who don't know who that is: Mr. Liu is the co-author of O'Reilly's DNS and BIND books.
he was in the netherlands to speak during this seminar about various DNS security implementation possibilities.
it was very interesting to hear him talk about the possibilities.

The end of the 2005 Formula 1 world championship ... what a disappointing ending.
McLaren not being able to beat renault for the constructors' championship was terrible.
i have just returned from a week vacation (went to Barcelona, Spain).
during that vacation the 2 remaining races of the season took place so my bro recorded both races for me.
i watched both races yesterday ... how fuckin' amazing the Japanese GP was, how boring and utterly frustrating was the Chinese GP.
we're saying goodbye to the 3 liter V10 engines which will be replaced by 2.4 liter V8 engines for next season.
the end of an era ?
